Pathology and biology of the potato late blight pathogen Phytophthora infestans
Phytophthora infestans is the causal agent of potato late blight. It belongs to the oomycetes, a unique group of eukaryotes that have a fungus-like growth morphology but evolved independent from the fungi. Our research focuses on the biology and pathology of P. infestans in particular on:
- Unravelling signal transduction pathways that underlie pathogenicity, thereby pinpointing targets for disease control.
- Identifying P. infestans elicitors of plant defence responses and assessment of their value for alternative disease control.
