Botrytis

Diseases caused by Botrytis fungi are economically very damaging. Especially Botrytis cinerea (known as grey mould) can infect > 200 plant species, many of which are important crop species (see image). Most notorious examples are grey mould on soft fruits (strawberry, raspberry, grapes), on vegetables (tomato, cucumber, lettuce), flowers (rose, Gerbera) and potted plants (cyclamen).

Other Botrytis species have a restricted host range but still their economic impact may be substantial (for example Botrytis elliptica, “fire”in lily). Our group studies different aspects of Botrytis diseases, both on the fungal and the plant side.
